Happy Friday Everyone! The Lush Dance is ON Tonight

Thank you for all the road updates this morning. The Bulldog spirit is alive and well in the dance world! It seems that for once the weather forecasters got it right. We did have a little snow last night, but nothing compared to last weekend. All roads are fine if negotiated with care. We expect freezing weather later, but it is the time of year for it…. so here’s the plan:

Shoe Changing Area

The Pemberton Centre car park will not be the place for evening shoes, and care should be taken getting from car to venue. So when you enter the Pemberton Suite tonight there will be an area reserved for shoe changing – think of it as akin to Superman’s phone box. You enter in your outdoor footwear, then glide down the steps onto the floor in your dancewear. Feel free to leave your outdoor wear on the coat rails and your all-weather footwear in this area, where you can retrieve it all at the end of the night.

The venue is nicely heated and will have a similar layout to the Christmas Ball. No reserved tables tonight, so arrive early and get in the spirit. Lazy Dave has got a full playlist lined up for you, so the top tunes will be playing as soon as you walk in!

At 8.30 we have the first of our special treats for you! UK Modern Jive Champions, Kevin & Aggie will be teaching a fun ‘competition moves’ class. Don’t miss it! Learn some top tips from this fabulous couple!

All this followed by a great night’s dancing and a chance to see Kevin & Aggie’s latest ‘award winning’ showcase dance!

What a 24 hours – First the bad news!

Just after sending out the club e-mail yesterday I received a call from Catriona Wiles informing me that due to an unforeseen work commitment (non-dance related), her and Paul will no longer be able to honour their commitment to perform at our Lush dance this Friday. Whilst this is very disappointing, we’re hoping to re-schedule for a future date.

Now the good news!

We are very proud to announce that current UK Modern Jive Champions, Kevin and Aggie have managed to squeeze us into their very busy schedule and will be teaching a fun ‘competition moves’ class from 8.30pm as well as performing their new award-winning showcase.

Known for their smooth style and unique moves, Kevin and Aggie have quickly received a reputation for pushing the boundaries of modern jive on the competition floor and through their fun, technical and stylish classes.

Since partnering together in 2010 this couple has taken the Modern Jive world by storm winning both major independent competitions over the last year as well as taking many individual awards in both Modern Jive and West Coast Swing.

Early Snow Warning

I’m sure many of you will have noticed this: The weathermen are unsure, but are suggesting there may be a significant amount of snow coming through our region on Friday. We’re monitoring this and if it does have an effect on our event, we are working on a Plan B. More on this in the event of a postponement.

So to sum up, we’re looking forward to a Lush night of dance this Friday, with lots of wonderful dancers attending. We’re very pleased to present the current UK Open Freestyle Champions, Kevin & Aggie for a ‘warm-up’ class and award winning showcase dance and we hope to get Paul & Cat back in the near future.

Then once parked, just cross over onto the same side of the road as Argos and walk down Harpur Street (toward Marks & Spencer’s) and the Harpur Suite is the very grand building with the greek/roman style pillars out the front

Firstly, if you haven’t booked for the September weekender at Hemsby, pull your finger out – It’s going to get booked up FAST after last weekend. WOW! Congratulations to the whole Jive Addiction team for finding the venue, bringing the teachers, DJ’s and dancers together into the ‘heady dance melting pot’ which was Hemsby – Absolutely loved it!

Moving on to the milestone, and I did announce this at the start of my class on Saturday. I began developing smooother modern jive because 7 years ago, Modern Jive needed it! As I observed and experienced the social dancing over the weekend it was very noticable to me how modern jive has started to move on – smooth dancers are growing in number! With the growth in popularity of smooth jive, WCS and tango I’m very pleased to say we can all enjoy more pleasurable social dancing as a result!

But let’s not rest on our laurels – there’s still more to do! Support your local clubs who teach and promote good technique in modern jive… we all need these guys if we want to see (and feel) less violence on the social dance floor!

And on that note, I’d like to thank Jive Addiction for having the foresight and conviction to include me in their teaching team before ‘smooth jive’ became popular, and it is now very popular judging by the numbers attending the classes at Hemsby and the large number of lush dances that didn’t involve crushing fingers and yanking arms out! It’s easy to forget the people who make the difference and Jive Addiction have made a BIG difference!

My names’s Lazy Dave and I for one am, and have spent the last 7 years developing the dance style now known as ‘Funky Smoooth Jive’.  This style has exploded onto the modern jive scene in recent months with demand growing for that lush feeling you get when truly connected to your partner… but where can we learn it? Where can we dance it? Where can we get inspiration?

 This group has been set up for the growing number of enlightened modern jive dancers around the world. A place to come together as a community, share our experiences and promote smoother modern jive to the wider dance world.

We’ve all experienced ‘rough’ dancers in our time, but this group hasn’t been set up to focus on the negatives, lets promote the positive aspects of learning good simple technique, encourage other dancers and raise global awareness of our smoother style of modern jive for everyone’s benefit!

This is a closed group – you have to be invited to join. This isn’t to make it exclusive, any like minded dancers are welcome to join us, but we want to keep focused on the prize – A better modern jive experience for everyone!

The ‘Smoooth Jive’ floodgates are bursting open all over the country! It may have taken Lazy Dave 7 years to develop this cool modern jive style and suffered knock back after knock back from dancers worried about change, but the nation’s progressive dancers are now breaking through and starting to make freestyle dancing a much smoother feeling.

It’s noticable how the popularity of this dance style has rocketed over the last 12 months – there are smooth dancers ‘in demand’ on most social modern jive dance floors today… DJ’s are happy to play a wider mix of music for the smoother dancers who can cope with the slower tempos… and dancers now have higher expectations from their local teachers and clubs, which is great for the modern jive world in general.

The buzz for ‘Smoooth Jive’ has been noticable recently at the country’s TOP independent dance weekenders and clubs where Lazy Dave’s classes have been a tremendous hit, blending good dance technique with hot moves and all delivered in an entertaining style which lifts the freestyle ‘after class’ with a unique BUZZ!
