Where can I learn Funky Smoooth Jive?
Check out our 'Clubs' page to see if you are lucky enough to live close enough to visit us every week and get the benefit of learning the funkiest form of modern jive from one of the country's best social dance teachers!
What about if I don't live close to a UK-S Club?
You can learn our smoooth style by purchasing our DVDs. Available on our 'Shop' page or from www.modernjive.com.
Encourage your local club to host a 'Lazy' Dave workshop. They're always popular with dancers all over the country wishing to learn the secrets of smoooth dancing! See our 'Masterclasses' page for more details. |
Do I need to book a course of lessons?
No. One of the great things about our style of dance is the flexibility. You only pay on the nights you attend and you don't have to commit to a 6 or 10 week course of lessons. Just turn up on the night and one of our friendly team will welcome you and explain the evening's format.
How long does each lesson last?
Generally speaking, the lessons last between 35 and 45 minutes and there are 2 lessons per evening. A Basics class which teaches the general techniques using 4 simple moves. This is followed by a Social Class which develops the moves and techniques taught in the first class into something new and exciting every week! After you've taken part in the classes there is then ample time for 'social dancing' where you get to practise what you've just learnt!
Do I need to bring a partner?
No. It is a popular misconception that you dance with the same partner all night. This isn't the case. Funky Smoooth Jive is a 'social' partner dance, which means we teach the techniques needed to be able to lead and follow whilst dancing with a variety of different partners.
What age group is this suitable for?
Funky Smoooth Jive is enjoyed by adults of all ages. Dancers of all ages have one thing in common... They all wished they'd started dancing at an earlier age! |
What style of music do you dance to?
The music used at the club will inspire music lovers who enjoy a wide range of styles, from Sinatra to Timberlake - the sort of music you're likely to hear in everyday life eg . at a wedding, party or club. And lets face it, what's the point of learning a dance style if you rarely get the chance to dance to it because the type of music is a little obscure!
Do you have a cure for "two left feet"?
UK Smoooth is probably the easiest partner dance to learn with no complicated foot patterns. The classes are always light-hearted which helps to remove any pressure to get it right first time. We believe learning to dance should be good fun - nobody should feel pressured to succeed.
So is this club for couples or single people?
We welcome everyone to our club who wants to learn to dance and enjoy a great night out!
You don't need to bring a partner and if you do, you won't have to dance with them all night either. Couples learn to dance quicker when they learn with a variety of partners. |
What does it cost to learn?
At the UK Smoooth clubs you only pay for the nights you come along and learn - you don't have to pay for a course of lessons, but you are rewarded the more you come to the club with our unique reward/membership card.
Regular members pay £8 per night
Entry on your first night is £9 (Fill out the membership form and new members get their next 3 visits to the club for only £5 per night)
